In 1900, top Bordeaux and Burgundy wines, such as Château d’Yquem or Chablis, were almost unaffordable. But for Saar wines, the guest even had to pay twice or three times the amount. They were the most expensive wines in the world. Our 110-year-old vines on Schonfels, a cliff high above the Saar, come from this period. The vines, ambassadors of a long-forgotten time, still give a few liters of concentrated essence. This corresponds to the tiny harvest quantities at the turn the 20th century.
