Weingut Peter Lauer – Ayl on the Saar

The viticultural Saar is home to one of the most exclusive white-wine regions in the world. In the Saar Valley around Ayl, the Riesling grape finds unique growing conditions between the poles of cool winds and hot slate slopes. In an effort to wrest top quality from the steep slopes, the 5th generation vinifies from spritzy entry-level wines up to [VDP].Große Gewächse (“great growths”) in the style of an almost 180-year-old tradition.

The centuries-old grand crus Ayler Kupp, Feils, and Schonfels are among the top sites of the greater Mosel region and are still made by hand. From this natural, holistic management of the vineyards to selective handpicking and gentle whole-bunch pressing (as in Champagne), to spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts in old wooden casks, the maxim applies: authenticity and drinking pleasure! Of course, the wines are vegan.
